A message from the WA State Leader, Libby Mettam MLA
2023 has been a year like no other. The political landscape has shifted dramatically since the veil of COVID was lifted, meaning Western Australians are finally seeing WA Labor for what it is.
The Cook Labor Government has been afforded the strongest mandate in recent political history, yet its legislative agenda demonstrates why life is becoming increasingly difficult under our unelected Premier.
The final week of Parliament could have been an opportunity for the government to implement meaningful cost-of-living relief for the 400,000 Western Australians who will struggle to put food on the table this Christmas.
Roger Cook’s priority was electoral ‘’reform’’…
This has been a year of wasted opportunity by WA Labor. Crime is on the rise, our health system is in crisis and cost-of-living pressures continue to spiral out of control.
And with repeated budget surpluses, thanks to booming iron ore prices and the GST deal secured by the former Liberal government, there are no excuses for this Government.
Mismanagement and incompetence is why WA Labor continues to fail to deliver the basic functions of government.
Although the Cook Government has spent 2023 wasting opportunities, your WA Liberal team has not.
- An incredible result was recorded at the Rockingham by-election with a primary vote swing of more than 30 per cent away from the Labor Party, the largest since 1996.
- Thanks to your support and the hard work of the Hon Neil Thomson MLC, we were able to protect the rights of landowners and Western Australian businesses from the overreach of powers that was the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act.
- WA Labor was so devoid of ideas that it adopted the WA Liberal Party’s policy to increase the number of GPS tracking bracelets for serious offenders who breach a violence restraining order.
Your WA Liberal team is working day in and day out to continue fighting the Cook Labor Government and to highlight its inability to govern for all Western Australians.
With the year coming to an end, we’re drawing nearer to the 2025 State Election. By the time we pass Australia Day, there’ll be a little over 400 days until March 8, 2025.
Please take this opportunity to spend time with friends and family, recharge your batteries and prepare for the year ahead. With two elections looming, we’re going to need all hands on deck to ensure we’ve got a fighting chance to take out Roger Cook and his band of union cronies.
We are going to make the most of every one of those 400 days.
I extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. This year has been filled with challenges and triumphs, and I am grateful for the dedication and hard work you have all contributed to our party.
Thank you for your unwavering support and tireless efforts. I look forward to the continued success that the new year holds for our party.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Libby Mettam
