$180,000 FOR A NEW SYNTHETIC TURF AT THE SORRENTO BOWLING CLUB

A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $180,000 to the City of Joondalup for a new synthetic bowls turf at the Sorrento Bowling Club.

Liberal Member for Moore, Ian Goodenough, said for the 800 club members, the synthetic green means they can play in a wide range of weather conditions and ensures they can remain competitive with other clubs in the area.

“I had been actively working with the Sorrento Bowling Club committee for nearly a year to secure this funding and was delighted when the Prime Minister visited the proposed site, as well as the Attorney General on a separate visit,” Mr Goodenough said.

“Sport is the heart of our community and our continued investment will make Moore an even better place to live and visit.”

City of Joondalup Mayor, Albert Jacob, said he welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to invest $180,000 in the Sorrento Bowling Club to enable them to install a new synthetic green.

“Sorrento Bowling Club aspires to meet the needs of the community by providing a friendly environment and facilities that Club members and the community enjoy, and it is one of the pre-eminent clubs in Perth, as a five-time Medium Club of the Year winner at the Clubs WA awards” Mayor Jacob said.

“This funding is in addition to more than $150,000 which the City of Joondalup has allocated in our capital works program towards the new synthetic surface, which would allow for year-round play with less maintenance and watering requirements than grass.”

The City’s contribution also matches a financial commitment made by the State Government.

Sorrento Bowling Club Acting President, Wayne Gray said the Club is pleased with the additional funding assistance for the new synthetic green.

“The construction of the Sorrento Bowling Club synthetic green will not only benefit our members and guests, but it will also benefit all our community. The Governing Council and all members of the Sorrento Bowling Club thank Mr Goodenough for his part in achieving this funding.” Mr Gray said.
