Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has today announced that an elected Coalition Government will deliver $4,000,000 in funding for much-needed upgrades to the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
The funding will contribute to the construction of three additional indoor courts, along with seating, changing facilities, an office/umpire’s room, a medical room and a community meeting space.
Mr Hastie said the expansion will ease pressure on overcrowded facilities—ensuring more locals can get on to the court and into the game.
“Right now, kids in Mandurah are being turned away from playing basketball and netball because there aren’t enough courts,” Mr Hastie said.
“They’re forced to play late into the night, training sessions are cut short, and families are missing out. That’s not good enough.
“This funding will help give local kids a fair go, and it will make a real difference.”
The MARC is already stretched to capacity, with over 900,000 visits per year from a community of more than 100,000 people.
“We’re giving local kids the chance to play, train, and compete with the facilities they deserve. This investment strengthens community sport and supports local jobs,” Mr Hastie said.
“This is a win for our community. The Coalition is backing Mandurah families with real investment in community infrastructure. We’re getting on with the job.”
The project will seek co-funding from the City of Mandurah and the Western Australian Government.
