Morrison Government supports Melville Community Men’s Shed

Apr 26, 2022 | Ben Morton, Federal Members

The Melville Community Men’s Shed will receive $250,000 to upgrade their brand-new facilities in Myaree if the Morrison Government is re-elected.

Federal Liberal Member for Tangney, Ben Morton, said the commitment would ensure the team at the Shed had the appropriate space and equipment to continue their important work for the community,” Minister Morton said.

“Men’s Sheds are a vital part of our community. They are known for bringing people together and helping to improve their communities by repairing and maintaining local facilities, including schools.

“They often pass on their craft and knowledge to others through workshops and educational activities to help people gain new and improved skills.

“Men’s Sheds offer men of all ages a safe and friendly environment where they can work on meaningful projects and build social connection – preventing social isolation and mental ill health.”

The Melville Community Men’s Shed currently has close to 70 financial members without access to the premises, and an additional 300 people have expressed interest in participating in activities at the Shed. The funding will help provide the organisations with the appropriate facilities to host all their members.

“Since 2013, the Coalition Government has provided more than $6.4 million to support Men’s Sheds through the programme,” Mr Morton said.

“This commitment builds on the Morrison Government’s Stronger Communities Program’s grant of $14,500 for equipment for the Melville Community Men’s Shed, which I helped secure in 2021.”

If re-elected, the Morrison Government will work in partnership with the City of Melville to deliver this important project.

Only the Morrison Government will continue to deliver a better future for Tangney as part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
