REVIVAL TO REVITALISE MUNDIJONG NETBALL COURTS

Mar 10, 2025 | Andrew Hastie, Federal Members

Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has announced that a Liberal Government will invest $2.4 million to upgrade the Mundijong Netball Courts in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

This major investment will support the Serpentine Jarrahdale Netball Association, its players, and the broader community by improving facilities, enhancing safety, and encouraging greater participation in sport.

Mr Hastie said the project will provide local netballers, families, and volunteers with the infrastructure they need to stay active, safe, and connected for years to come.

“Sport brings our community together, and these upgrades are long overdue.

“That’s why I’m making a commitment to deliver better courts, improved lighting, upgraded facilities, and safer parking,” Mr Hastie said.

Currently, the courts are worn down, with unsafe playing surfaces and just two toilets available for female players and spectators. With all four courts in constant use during the season, these much-needed upgrades will create a safer, more accessible environment for players of all ages.

The project will include:

  • Re-surfacing of the courts to improve player safety.
  • Upgrading canteen facilities to better serve players and spectators.
  • Enhanced lighting and parking for greater accessibility and security.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President, Rob Coales said today’s announcement from Andrew Hastie MP marks a significant milestone for the SJ community, particularly for the hundreds of residents who participate in netball each season.

“These courts have long been in need of improvement. It is a testament to the dedication of the Shire’s players, both young and not-so-young, that they have continued to play the sport they love despite less-than-ideal conditions.

“Encouraging active, healthy lifestyles and promoting sports participation is a priority for our community. This commitment by Andrew Hastie MP and the Liberals is not only a welcome investment in infrastructure but also a step towards enhancing the Shire’s overall liveability.

“It will create a more welcoming and supportive environment for our future star netballers, ensuring they have the facilities they deserve to thrive,” Mr Coales said.

President of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Netball Association, Aleesha Denholm, welcomed the commitment, stating, “the committee, parents, and players will breathe a sigh of relief, finally seeing something done to this facility. The players will be able to participate safely on new courts and see the ball at training with new lights.”

This investment is part of the Liberal’s plan to back local infrastructure projects that strengthen communities, promote healthy lifestyles, and deliver tangible benefits to families.
