Retirement of Michael Keenan MP

26 January 2019

Michael Keenan has been one of the great success stories of the Western Australian Liberal Party, having served our Division in various positions from Branch President to Deputy Director and later entering Parliament in 2004 as part of John Howard’s Government.

Michael has been a very popular and active Member of Parliament and a strong advocate for our Liberal values. His talents were recognised in 2013 when he was promoted to Minister for Justice.

Michael has served the Australian people in many capacities including the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Counter Terrorism, Minister for Human Services and Minister for Digital Transformation.

Outside of politics, like many Western Australian MP’s, Michael has had to juggle family life, his commitment to the Stirling community and the responsibilities of a Federal Minister.

As many Party members know, in July last year, Michael and his wife Georgina announced the arrival of their fourth son.

Michael’s decision to step down from politics ahead of the Federal Election was a very difficult decision, but one based entirely around the desire to spend more time with his wife Georgina and their young family.

Michael is committed to working closely with the Stirling Division to ensure his community continues to be represented by a hard-working Liberal Member of Parliament.

On behalf of the Western Australian Liberal Party, we wish Michael and the Keenan family all the very best.

Fay Duda
State President
  Sam Calabrese
